A cosmopolitan painter and icon of the Art Deco movement, Tamara de Lempicka created images that became the symbols of an era, “the crazy” 1920s and 1930s.
She was possibly that period’s most brilliant exponent. Driven by an iron will to achieve, Tamara not only cultivated her artistic talent, she also consciously built an image, that of an elegant and sophisticated woman, the extravagant protagonist of the European high life.
Published to mark the exhibition in Rome, the monograph traces the entire career of this fascinating Polish artist who lived in Europe, the United States and Mexico; it also catalogues the sum of her works. Through scrupulous scientific analysis of 120 paintings and works on paper, the publication recreates the artistic atmosphere of the time, suggesting unique parallels and comparisons with contemporary works.
Gioia Mori holds the chair in Art History at the Accademia in Venice and is scientific director of Art e Dossier, one of the most authoritative Italian journals in the area of art.
